In 1911 the first official skiing competition took place by the name of Copa del Rey Alfonso III (King Alfonso the 3rd's Cup). After that the first International Ski Competition as well as the King's Cup again took place the following year, both in La Molina. Years went by and ski activities became intense with the arrival of the railway to La Molina in 1922, which allowed more and more people to have access to these winter activities. Later in 1923 the railway arrived to Puigcerdà.
In 1924 a group of friends, encouraged by Mr. Ignasi Folch i Girona, started their dream of creating the Xalet of La Molina after buying the building called Porxo Nou de Sitjar (the New Porch of Sitjar) and making their dream come true with its opening on December 5, 1925.It was around the Xalet that all this winter complex was slowly created and where the first ski lessons were given. In 1928 the first jumping ski slide was built in Font Canaletas as well as the first events took place such as the first women's competition, the first couples' competition, the first Cross-country Skiing Championship of Catalunya with a distance skied of 15km, and the Alpine Skiing Spanish Championship..
After some years, on February 28, 1943 the first ski lift in Spain was opened, which gave way to what later became La Molina Ski Resort. A year later the first Spanish School of Skiing was born and settled at the Xalet.
During all these years, the Xalet has been full of history, it has been the place where books have been written, films have been shot and a lot of people have got to know the exciting ski world and, of course, some of them have had important anecdotes happen in their lives.
